News: 23 Feb 2013 – iPhone 5 leads way in Q4 2012 sales figures

Apple iPhone 5     Apple iPhone 4S     Samsung Galaxy S3

Figures out recently from Strategy Analytics show that Apple’s iPhone 5 now leads the way as the world’s best-selling smartphone. The full 1-2-3 in Q4 2012 was
1. Apple iPhone 5 27.4 million units (12.6%)
2. Apple iPhone 4S 17.4 million units (8%)
3. Samsung Galaxy S3 15.4 million units (7.1%)

Samsung’s Galaxy S3 had been leading the way up until Q4, so Samsung will now be keener than ever to release their rumoured Galaxy S4 sooner rather than later.

News: 7 Feb 2013 – Forbes names uTest 8th Most Promising Company

uTest.com

uTest is one of the online testing platforms I work with, testing iOS Apps, Android Apps, Websites and Software Applications. Forbes has placed them at 8th in their Top 25 of ‘America’s Most Promising Companies’ which is a pretty big accolade.

It will be interesting to see where this extra exposure takes them – as Forbes says, they already work with Google, Amazon, Netflix and many other major companies.

News: 30 Jan 2013 – BB10 launched

RIM are today launching their BB10 OS, which could make or break the firm’s future.

Will it help them to regain ground on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android? Only time (and users) will tell.

TechCrunch are providing live coverage of the BB10 Launch Event as are (unexpectedly!) the Daily Mirror.

During the launch event, it was announced that RIM will now drop the RIM name and become BlackBerry.

And here’s two BlackBerry devices unveiled today – the Z10 and the Q10 – courtesy of the DailyTech website.

News: 24 Jan 2013 – Apple results up, shares down

iPhone 5

Apple announced their Quarterly Results earlier today, with record quarterly revenue of $55bn – which resulted in a 12% drop in the share price. Strange logic, but apparently markets expected much more growth, so continued the recent sell-off, at an even faster rate.

Apple shares are currently around the $450 mark, having started the day over $500 apiece.

Today’s fall was equivalent to a drop of around $50bn off the value of Apple, which is vastly more than the value of most of their competitors.

(Part of the market’s disappointment was with iPhone 5 sales, hence the nice iPhone 5 picture above)
